An Introduction
A Bar is a shape that is either extruded, or hot rolled from billet, to create a piece with solid cross-section of either round, square, flat rectangular, hexagonal, half round, or other custom shapes, that are far longer in length in comparison to their cross section. "Bar" is the term typically given to a shape with over 10mm cross-sectional diameter. It becomes a Rod when the cross-section is less than 10mm in diameter.
Bars and Rods are generally used to created semi-finished products. These may include screws, bolts, nails, wire, rivets, brackets, reinforcing bars in construction and fittings. Their form also makes them an ideal starting point for milling or turning into finished products reflecting their original shapes, or cut to produce washers and shims.
